IT IS MY GOAL THAT OUR RESIDENTS ARE HEARD
I believe our policies for the common good of its citizens need to reflect our values: safe and protected communities, good health care for all, decent housing for Minnesotans, excellent schools, helping our children towards a good future, a sustainable environment, living wage, and feeling safe and protected where we live. I am ready to listen, learn and work with every member of our community to bring our values in Isanti and Chisago County to the Legislature. I am honored to be a DFL-endorsed candidate for 32A, and I look forward to meeting many of you on the campaign trail.
HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE
I support, and will work for, single-payer universal health care in Minnesota that provides all Minnesotans with care that includes physical, mental, and dental care. Our families should not have to live with the burden of debt or the threat of poverty because of unaffordable health care. Universal health care is the only affordable health care there is.
Solution: Enact the Minnesota Health Plan in the Minnesota Legislature in 2019.
FULLY FUNDED SCHOOLS
Insufficient public funding for our schools is creating serious cutbacks in schools, especially in the areas of special education, mental health and other support services. Let’s spend our tax dollars for lower classroom sizes, mental health and support services, and innovative pathways to prepare our children for the future, such as extending public education two years to provide free trade schools and community colleges.
Solution: Increase taxes on corporations and rich people.
Solution: Stop the use of local levies to fund schools.
Solution: Expand funding to invest in early childhood education by providing pre-kindergarten education and day care to all families on a sliding scale, with tuition full covered by means.
It is way past the time for passing common sense solutions for gun violence. Fifty women a day are shot to death by their partner. Assault weapons are military weapons, and are not protected under the Second Amendment. They must be banned in Minnesota, as they are in Massachusetts and many cities.
Solution: Pass a law that requires a background check before a gun can be sold.
Solution: Pass a law that prohibits military weapons.
Solution: Pass a law that prohibits gun ownership for domestic abusers.
Persistent and increasing wage inequality is a critical public policy issue, and a great threat to the well-being of our children. Our goal must be income equality.
Solution: Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, and include annual cost-of-living adjustments.
DECENT STABLE HOUSING
Children in Minnesota are homeless. The elderly are homeless. Families are homeless. Not only is this shameful – it is disgraceful, and we cannot let it continue. It is destroying the fabric of our communities.
Solution: Provide affordable housing through public and private investment to prevent homelessness and promote stable housing for low income earning families and individuals in Minnesota.
I would appreciate your vote so that I can work to ensure that we have safe and protected communities, good health care for all, decent housing for Minnesotans, excellent schools, helping our children towards a good future, a sustainable environment, living wage, and feeling safe and protected where we live.
